WFMW: Holiday Baking Prep...

You know what it's like: butter and sugars creamed; eggs beaten; flour, salt, and baking soda combined- WHAT??!! No baking soda? Did I really use all of it last time? How could I forget to put that on my list?

Sound familiar? Well, there is a way to avoid that scenario. Starting this week, add two holiday baking items to your grocery list. All the stores are setting up "baking centers" even now. These areas usually have all the necessary ingredients for baking. I started this just recently. I bought two bags of mini chocolate chips and some canned pumpkin. Next week I'll grab some baking soda and baking powder. That way, I (hopefully) won't be caught in an unexpected shortage in an inconvenient time!!

For other great tips, go on over. Really. Go on!

Good idea!

Great idea! I just looked at the date on my baking powder; pretty sure it won't work anymore--it's been open for 6 months! Thanks for the reminder. Great sales on baking staples are easy to find around the holidays.

Great tip - every year I plan to make a bunch of holiday cookies to give away and I just never get around to it - maybe if I start now and freeze them before I cook them I will get it done. Are any cookies good freezing after cooking?

Yes, yes, yes - I need to do this!!

I love it! I HATE running out of something. Thanks for the reminder to be ready for baking season.

Great tip, I sell baked items every fall and winter. I made a Sam's run last week, and was thrilled they already had the pumpkin out.

A terrific Idea! For me it's nuts I always run out of and they can get pretty expensive. I am going to start picking up a package of nuts every week and pop 'em in the freezer for when I need them. That way maybe they won't be such a shock to the grocery bills come November. Thanks for the tip!

Kim,

Most cookies are fine to freeze- just make sure they are completely cool first. Another thing you might want to try is to freeze the cookie dough in after you scoop it into little balls or slice into rounds. Just a thought!

Good idea! I probably need to replace some stuff anyway because it's getting old.
Thanks for the tip!

Ohhh great idea!!! I think I'm going to start baking soon...I love to freeze stuff and then all I have to do is thaw it out!!!
